How Does the System Revision Process help Members & Business Partners align with the HREDD Framework?
What is the amfori BSCI System Revision?
amfori BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative) provides our amfori members with guidelines and tools to exercise human rights due diligence in their supply chain.
Currently, the amfori BSCI System Revision aims at aligning with OECD (Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development) guidelines for responsible business conduct, as well as with the laws and regulations coming from the EU and national levels (i.e., the German Supply Chain Act). In this way, we ensure that our products and services are aligned with international responsible business standards.
Who do we work with in the Process?
To ensure that all the parts of the system are revised accordingly, amfori cooperates with KUMI – our sustainability consultancy specialising in responsible supply chains. We also work closely with amfori members through Project Groups, enabling them to provide feedback and input into the revision process. Moreover, we address social and human rights related issues through thematic experts from national and international institutions and stakeholders. A wider consultation was launched in early July 2022 – Public Consultation on the Revision of the amfori BSCI System Manual.
What Are the HREDD Core Elements Targeted by the Revision?
Early detection of labour and human rights violations in the supply chain is a crucial part of the amfori BSCI System Revision. Therefore, the revision focuses on implementing new ways through which the amfori BSCI Due Diligence Implementation Strategy and the amfori BSCI Monitoring Approach become crucial parts of our members’ business identity. Within this process, members are strongly recommended to use our voluntary preparation tools, such as the Self-Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ) and follow the Continuous Improvement process. This helps them improve the way their business is conducted, identify risks in their supply chains, and provide appropriate remediation when necessary. All these will help members align themselves much better with the international framework of human rights and environmental due diligence.
Moreover, the System Revision process implies constant engagement with stakeholders and continuous monitoring of relevant supply chain metrics. For instance, based on members’ and stakeholders’ feedback, the latest features of amfori Insights focus on wage and workforce data, illustrated in the form of dashboards. These are based on the amfori BSCI monitoring reports data. Moreover, we also developed the Country Legislation Overview Dashboard that provides information about HREDD regulation.
