The amfori Annual Report 2022 is now available
The year 2022 was for everyone in the world a year that might be best described as “finding a new balance” with COVID-19 becoming endemic, increasing geo-political tensions, challenging economic perspectives, rising conflict and global warming showing its ever-stronger impact.
In combination with rising expectations from stakeholders and increasingly binding sustainability due diligence legislation underway, business is expected to find the right balance between people planet and profit. In other words, sustainable business contributes to sustainable supply chains and sustainable trade.
Our amfori members are committed to sustainability and that is what brings us together. In 2022, our efforts focused on the following key topics:
- Environmental Due Diligence:
• amfori BEPI 2.0 Project. We enhanced and prepared amfori BEPI for migration onto the amfori Sustainability Platform, helping members and business partners to improve and limit their environmental impact throughout their global supply chain
• partnership with ZDHC (Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals). We signed a new collaboration agreement with the ZDHC Foundation, to strengthen and support each other in achieving a positive global impact on environmental performance within the textile, apparel and footwear sectors
- Social Due Diligence:
amfori BSCI. Our amfori BSCI System Revision was an important step towards the updated amfori BSCI System in 2023. We also published a series of associated documents in two additional languages
- 3. Governance Due Diligence:
amfori Speak for Change. Following the pilot of our amfori Speak for Change programme in Vietnam, we conducted an in-depth analysis and made preparations for implementation in new countries starting from 2023
- 4. Data and Reporting:
We continued to enhance our amfori Insights tool to improve the overall user experience and developed amongst others, the Query Builder for customised reporting to better suit our members’ individual preferences and needs
- 5. Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence:
We prepared solutions for a due diligence approach to meet international legislative requirements, to better support our members in their due diligence efforts, starting with Risk Identification in 2023.
We are keen to thank Caroline Bouisset for her contribution to this and so many other projects in 2022. In March 2023, she passed the baton to our new Chair of the amfori Board of Directors, Leon Mol.
In 2022, the German Supply Chain Act started to apply to companies based in Germany with more than 3,000 employees. amfori launched a series of webinars to unpack specific aspects of the law in partnership with the German PST (Partnership for Sustainable Textiles) and with support from the German Helpdesk on Business and Human Rights.
Despite the publication of the draft Directive on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence in 2022, a long and winding road still lies ahead. The principles, however, are well-known. So, with amfori’s support, companies can and should already start assessing their supply chains to identify risks, prioritise, mitigate, remediate, and finally report.
With these challenges in mind and our ambition to provide the best service and support to our members and their business partners, amfori embarked on an important journey in 2022: the amfori Business Strategy project. Together with the amfori Board of Directors, we aim to redefine our mission, vision and set our strategic direction and objectives for the future.
Collaboration is at heart of what we do at amfori. None of those achievements would have been possible without the support and input from our members, stakeholders and the amfori team who dare to challenge to drive continuous improvement.
