amfori is a global business association dedicated to helping companies improve their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance across supply chains. Our comprehensive solutions support sustainability efforts while mitigating supply chain disruptions. Our methodology enables businesses to assess and manage ESG compliance risks, covering key areas such as chemicals, climate, fair wages, worker safety, and more.
Originally founded in 1977 in Germany as the Foreign Trade Association (FTA), and headquartered in Brussels, Belgium since the 1980s, amfori was rebranded in 2018 to reflect its expanded focus on sustainable trade. Established through a collective effort by European retailers and importers, amfori continues to promote responsible business practices globally.

FTA (Foreign Trade Association - now amfori) was founded
A collective of organisations in Germany established amfori to support international trade efforts in a sustainable way.
Launch of amfori BSCI
Introduction of a globally recognised methodology to identify and address social risks in supply chains.
Expansion to Asia – Hong Kong SAR, China Office
amfori opened its first non-European office to strengthen its presence in global markets.
Launch of amfori BEPI
A dedicated program to help businesses reduce their environmental impact in global supply chains.
Rebranding to amfori
The Foreign Trade Association officially became amfori, symbolising trade as a driver of human progress.
Launch of two new solutions
amfori Speak for Change, a supply chain grievance mechanism, launched in Vietnam, and further expanded since.
amfori QMI was introduced in China, now extended to India, Vietnam, and Thailand.
Launch of amfori SustainaPass
