amfori’s shift beyond system recognition for more credible data

amfori’s shift beyond system recognition for more credible data

At the heart of social and environmental risk management lies credible data, the foundation for informed decisions, transparency, and sustainable growth.

In today’s rapidly evolving landscape, businesses face mounting pressure to demonstrate responsible practices and deliver measurable impacts. Navigating this environment requires more than good intentions; it demands accurate, reliable information that enables organisations to assess risks, track progress, and communicate openly with stakeholders.

As expectations from consumers, investors, and regulators continue to rise, the role of credible data has never been more critical. It empowers companies to uncover hidden vulnerabilities, respond proactively to emerging challenges, and lay out the groundwork for lasting, positive change across their supply chains and operations.

With robust data supporting every step, businesses can move beyond simple compliance and embrace genuine sustainability, driving trust and resilience in an increasingly complex world.

Why risk assessments and audits matter

Risk assessments and audits are more than compliance checks; they’re tools to strengthen your business. They help members:

  • Detect potential risks before they escalate
  • Build trust with consumers and partners
  • Drive continuous improvement in sustainability practices

Without reliable data, these processes lose their effectiveness. That’s why amfori is committed to giving members access to robust, verifiable information.

Moving beyond system recognition

For years, system recognition allowed members to leverage existing certifications and audits from other initiatives. While this approach offered convenience for a few schemes, it lacked the depth and transparency needed for today’s sustainability challenges

amfori will discontinue system recognition with currently three recognised schemes (SA/SA8000, Equalitas, GlobalGAP) from 3 February 2026. There will be a grace period until 13 February 2026, following a decision made by the amfori Leadership Team and amfori Board of Directors. amfori recognises members’ needs for credible data for supply chain risk management; hence, instead of relying on uploaded PDF certificates, the focus will be on sharing verified data that is openly accessible

This decision reflects our commitment to higher standards and greater accountability. But it also raises an important question: How can members continue to access credible data efficiently?

Introducing alternative solutions

To further support our members, we will introduce two new collaborations at the end of Q1, providing access to verified amfori data openly and transparently, and enable companies and stakeholders to compare amfori with other systems.

In the meantime, members are encouraged to keep their amfori audit and risk assessment data fully up to date. Business partners can already upload relevant certificates via the Environmental Risk Assessment and the Social Risk Assessment for risk evaluation purposes only.

The future of sustainable supply chains

Our partnerships with ITC and OSH mark a significant step forward in building resilient, transparent supply chains. By prioritising credible data and collaboration, we enable our members to navigate risks confidently and contribute to a more sustainable global economy.
