Voicing the importance of Sustainable Business at the B20
To make sure that the voice of sustainable business is heard by G20 governments, amfori actively contributed to the B20 discussions, highlighting the importance of Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence as the key to adapt and strengthen business, while building resilience. Fostering mutual understanding between countries around ESG challenges and opportunities in International forums, like the B20, is vital to make sure that global sustainability challenges are tackled in an harmonised fashion.
Corporate Due Diligence in full swing
With the entry into effect of the German Supply Chain Act on 1 January 2023, and the negotiations for the adoption of an EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive progressing throughout 2023, amfori has been busy engaging with key stakeholders and policymakers both nationally and at European level. During 2023 we organized webinar series, published statements and hosted roundtables to build capacity, raise awareness, influence ongoing discussions and learn from others.
The Forced Labour regulation – Sisyphus awaits…
Following the European Parliament’s joint rapporteurs’ draft report in April, the EP agreed its position (which contained several elements of our position paper) in October. At end November, the Spanish presidency provided the other 26 member states with a compromise text, based on the original Commission proposal. amfori has publicly supported the proposal, highlighted its repercussions with governments of sourcing countries and has remained in contact with the EP. We hope that it can find approval by the Council, EP and Commission before the end of the current EP term in April 2024.
amfori Climate Lab brings together 50+ members to leverage peer-to-peer learning on supply chain emissions
The amfori Climate Lab was launched in December 2022 as an exchange and facilitation channel to cater for the ‘climate needs’ of amfori members and steer the development of amfori climate tools.
Throughout 2023, the Climate Lab hosted three sessions (besides the launch) on climate roadmaps, scope 3 calculation and BP engagement. The sessions were solution-oriented and hosted case studies, updates on the amfori tools, external experts and interactive discussions with the participants.
The initiative has been very welcomed by amfori members at different stages of their climate journey: more advanced companies can test their ideas with peers, and less advanced members can learn from them, especially those in their supply chain.
