How amfori ESG Risk Compass helps businesses prioritise ESG risks

How amfori ESG Risk Compass helps businesses prioritise ESG risks

How do you prioritise risk when everything looks high‑risk? By turning complex ESG data into clear, comparable insights, you will know where to focus first.

ESG risk is no longer a purely technical sustainability topic. Expectations differ across markets; regulatory requirements continue to evolve, and many companies are operating under economic pressure. As a result, businesses need clarity on where ESG risks are highest, which ones are most relevant to their supply chains, and where action is most urgent.

Understanding ESG Risks in business context

ESG risks have become politically sensitive, while inflation, high interest rates and uncertain growth are pushing companies to prioritise short‑term performance. In this environment, ESG risk tools must demonstrate clear business value, not just support compliance efforts.

When ESG risks are not assessed and prioritised properly, the consequences can be significant:

  • ESG issues can disrupt operations and affect both financial performance and corporate reputation.
  • ESG risk information is often fragmented and inconsistent, making it difficult to compare risks across suppliers, regions or categories.
  • Regulatory frameworks increasingly require a structured, risk‑based approach, with companies expected to demonstrate robust processes for identifying and prioritising their most critical ESG risks.

amfori ESG Risk Compass turns ESG risk data into clear business value

amfori ESG Risk Compass is a risk intelligence and decision‑support dashboard that helps you prioritise ESG risks by transforming complex data into actionable insights.

Today, the tool provides a country‑level view of ESG risks, enabling businesses to establish a structured risk baseline across global supply chains and quickly identify where ESG exposure is structurally highest.

From 6 May, this capability will be further strengthened with the introduction of sector‑level risk insights, allowing companies to refine their prioritisation and better understand how ESG risks differ across industries.

More than a sustainability dashboard, amfori ESG Risk Compass supports core business needs such as supply chain management, risk management and long‑term value creation, helping integrate ESG considerations into everyday business decisions.

Supporting structured due diligence

amfori ESG Risk Compass includes 20 ESG indicators across environmental, social and governance areas, covering more than 150 countries. Risks are organised into four levels, each linked to corresponding due diligence guidance, enabling companies to decide whether basic monitoring or more in‑depth action is needed.

ESG classifications are based on a combination of internal amfori data and reliable external sources, providing a balanced and credible risk overview. To support reporting, internal alignment and stakeholder engagement, results can be exported in PDF or CSV format.

At Nauterra, we carry out a structured due diligence process to identify and control the most relevant ESG risks associated with our suppliers. A key tool in this process is amfori ESG Risk Compass, which provides up‑to‑date information from reliable and recognised sources on the risks in the countries where our suppliers operate. This allows us to anticipate ESG risks, make informed decisions, and strengthen our commitment to sustainability.
